About Kincaid Indianapolis Kachin Baptist Church

Kincaid Indianapolis Kachin Baptist Church was established on August 3, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The church was named in honor of Rev. Eugenio Kincaid, an American Baptist missionary whose ministry played a significant historical role in introducing Christianity to the Kachin people of northern Burma (now Myanmar).

Before the arrival of Christianity, many Kachin people practiced traditional animist beliefs. In 1837, Rev. Kincaid traveled to northern Burma to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. During his mission, he encountered many hardships and opposition from local communities. Despite these challenges, he remained steadfast in his faith, believing that the people would one day experience spiritual transformation through the message of Christ.

As he traveled from village to village, Rev. Kincaid preached the gospel to thousands of people while seeking to understand the language, culture, and traditions of the Kachin people. Although his ministry in the region was relatively brief, his faithful service helped lay the foundation for the continued growth of Christianity among the Kachin community. His pioneering efforts inspired many missionaries who followed and devoted their lives to sharing the gospel throughout the region.

In honor of Rev. Kincaid's pioneering ministry and the generations of missionaries who continued this work, Kincaid Indianapolis Kachin Baptist Church is committed to carrying forward the same mission of serving God and sharing the love of Christ with others.

Today, Kincaid Indianapolis Kachin Baptist Church has grown to a congregation of more than 150 members. Our mission is to proclaim the gospel locally and globally while nurturing a Christ-centered community of faith that worships God, disciples believers, and serves His Kingdom. We are a member of the American Baptist Churches of Greater Indianapolis (ABCGI).

Our worship services are conducted primarily in the Kachin language, while warmly welcoming people of all backgrounds and languages. Whether you speak Kachin or another language, you are invited to join our church family as we worship, grow in faith, and serve together.
